The position is to be filled full-time (40 hours per week) and is initially limited to two years for project-related reasons; an extension is being sought.
Background: Pioneering organic farming in Egypt since 1977, Sekem farm developed Egypt-based biodynamic agriculture and Economy of Love principles and standards. In 2017 Sekem and the Egyptian Biodynamic Association developed a four-phase EoL-carbon-credit-based 10-year plan to enable other farms a transition to biodynamic agriculture. The means to realize the plan undergo continuous process evaluation and adjustment. In Phase 1, 400 farmers were educated to become suppliers of SEKEM processing and trading activities. Phases 2, 3 and 4 involved recruiting 2,100 farmers by 2022, 40,000 farmers by 2025 and 250,000 by 2028, respectively, with the aim of establishing an autonomous biodynamic agricultural system in Egypt that sells the biodynamic products to the local markets at conventional prices.
