Founded in 1982, Witten/Herdecke University is Germany’s first private university. More than 600 employees and 2,600 students cross disciplinary boundaries in order to improve their understanding of important societal challenges. The DANGER project will investigate counter-measures to political violence that threatened the democratic survival of Europe’s inter-war democracies (1919-1939). On the basis of these historical insights, we will derive policy recommendations for contemporary European states.
